I was thrilled to be elected, it was a great night. I am pleased to represent the area I live and was born. I went to local schools and shop in the Town, so its great being so involved in my Community. I didn’t go looking to be a Councillor, but realised if I wanted to make a difference I would need to be elected. I was elected in 2003 and reelected in 2007, both for 4 year terms.
I felt fantastic, and that I could finally make a difference. I not always wanted to be councillor, I didn’t know what politics was until the age of 15.
Hi izzy,
No I have not always wanted to be a Councillor, it happened by accident.
New Labour planned to sell off a playing field near my home and I and others did not want this to happen.
We stopped the plans and the rest is history..
Regards
Gary
I was excited. I hadn’t realised I’d won when they were counting. I don’t think many people grow up wanting to be local councillors, I decided I wanted to do it because I felt that Labour neglected the area where I lived. I think that people should have freedom to choose, that government should be small and not interfere in people’s lives and that people that earn the money should get to keep it and spend it how they want. Imagine if you got £10 pocket money but your parents made you spend £5 of it on things you didn’t want or need. That’s what Governments do they take money off you and waste it. People in my area, would like to see the money the Council takes from them spent in our area on the things we need & not wasted on silly things.
