Question: What would you do to get young people playing sports and of the streets?
Becase ther are lots of young children hanging about on the streets and getting up to no good.
We need to listen to what our young people want. I try to speak with our young people when I see them hanging about and ask what interests them? It’s no good just making things up and saying all our young people want is table tennis for example. Lets get more involved with after school activities. I used to play cricket, badminton, football and rugby for my school. This involved a lot of extra time out of school, plus lunch times. During the summer months, I was also part of the athletics team. It was great and some students went on to do other sporting activities. What would you like to see? What could I do to try and help you? Thanks for the question.
Thanks Jack, We need to encourage more young people to join their local sports clubs, locally to me we have Golborne Sports and Cricket Club, and Leigh East ARLC. I am a strong believer in sport helping young people like you develop skills such as teamwork, and leadership.
Hi Jack, Thank you for your question, this is an area of Politics which I have been involved with for a long time.
I helped bring Wigan Ath football in the Community to my area to help get the Kids off the Streets, every time I have done this it’s been huge success. We even had a Squad player down last year to talk to the kids, this went down a storm, they asked him some very good questions, mainly about how much he was earning as a Professional Footballer, we do need more out of school activities, have you visited the roller rink yet? I have many times it’s a great facility we need more places for young people to meet, like café’s that have internet access and allow people in to chat and mix.
If you have any ideas I would be happy to listen to them?
Thanks
