Me and my council work

I’m the first Independent Councillor to be elected on the Council for over twenty years!

I’m the leader of the Independent group the second largest oppostion group on the Council and have been a Councillor for Bryn ward since 2003. I have supported lots of youth schemes over the years; one of the best was the Ashton Community Cup which was played at Robin Park against lads from Ashton and Bryn. Pics below. Latics Chairman Dave Whelan was our Manger for the the day, We won 4-3. I also attened the Garden Party at Buckingham Palace which was a great day out …Pics below.

My Typical Day

I work full time for the NHS, start work at 7.45 finish and am home for 5pm. I have tea every night with my family (Adele, Thomas and Rachele) which is very important to me.

I am up @ 6.30am, fight to get in the shower before my 13 year old gets in; he is getting faster as i get older (and slower), My working day starts at 7.45am as I work in the Maintainance Dept, which covers three hospital sites at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh. .I am usually based at Wrightington Hospital or Wigan Infirmary. I usually cycle to work to either hospital … 5 miles to Wigan or 12 miles to Wrightington. As I said previously I make an effort to have an evening meal with Adele, Thomas and Rachele as I feel meal times must be spent together as a family. It’s a great excuse to get together and catch up on each others day and set the world right. I’m out most nights of the week, normaly at meetings and attending Community functions etc. Weekend nights we try to spend them together as a family watching X Factor or going roller skating at Wigan Roller Rink…

What I'd do as "Youth Champion"

I would campaign to reward the good kids at School as I feel they do not get enough credit for working hard.

I would try to start a rewards scheme for kids that work hard at School. I would hope for it to run in a similar way to store reward cards … Tesco card, Nectar Card etc … Each pupil would have their own ‘Reward Card’ and would collect ‘points’ for handing in homework on time, or for outstanding good behaviour etc. The points could be exchanged for gifts … for example downloads, Nintendo and X Box games, mobile ‘phones etc … from a participating store. The harder the pupil works the more points they collect.
