I have spoken up about having a 6th form college in Ashton, like we used to have when I was at school. This means that Ashton students wouldn’t need to travel out of the Town and also have continuity in their education. I am Chair of Governors at Byrchall and I am currently exploring this. Lets achieve this goal first as having a University may be beyond our reach. Normally, Universities are based in City centres. Good question and one I am eager to resolve.

Unfortunately you can’t just set up a University, a body that awards degrees is limited by s.214 of the Education Reform Act 1988 to ones which under Subsection (1) are bodies which are authorised by Royal Charter or UK Act of Parliament.
